Clinical supervision is a learning space offered to psychologist and psychiatrists who practice psychotherapy with adults, and who are in training or seeking to enhace their tools and skills for their clinical work with patients. It is beneficial to engage in supervision at any career stage, not just upon graduation, as it allows one to benefit from the experience of another professional who has more work exprience and/or a different perspective or life experience.
Sessions are conducted to review and resolve difficulties that may arise during clinical practice. Concerns that are difficult to address, doubts about deepening treatment, or to seek a different viewpoint from another therapist’s perspective to expand the understanding can be shared. There are many situations -both theoretical and practical- that make supervision valuable. The opportunity to have an ethical and confidential space allows for honest disclosure of situations requering help or guidance, leading to concrete learning that enriches both the psychotherapist’s work and the lives of their patients.
