Amazonian plants-assisted psychotherapy: Indigenous healing in our western lives
13 de junio 2025
18:00 a 21:30 hrs. (SCL)
Academia de Psicología & Bienestar
June 2024
This course addresses Amazonian shamanism and Vegetalismo (a medical system of indigenous origin) from a perspective that respect the ancient native knowledge of the rainforest. These traditional medicine practices are a way of accessing both material (physical) and intangible (spiritual) reality through the same methods developed by our Western science, as they were established through observation, empiricism and evidence-based knowledge.
It explains what happens when ayahuasca is ingested, the various phenomena that occur in the body, and what the experience is like. Dreams and hallucinations are discussed as pathways that allow access to knowledge about oneself and reality. These pathways have been used by both indigenous peoples -from ancient times to the present day- and by westerners when they take ayahuasca to gain information and insights that help them address various mental health problems.
Based on these foundations, it explains what ayahuasca and other amazonian plants-assisted psychotherapy consists of, as well as traditional retreats (dietas) in which plants are taken that facilitate information about various aspects of a person’s inner and outer world.
